so it would appear that neil patrick harris is gay. not that interesting—just a guy being honest. what is interesting about it, however, is how the announcement was made.
a couple of days ago, harris’ publicist began screaming that “he’s not, he’s not, he’s never touched a penis!” nobody had ever really even cared—from what i understand, some people seemed relatively confident that he is, and the rest of us never really questioned it because it’s just none of anyone’s business. doogie’s never played on his sex appeal. the media’s response was a deeply confused, “huh?”
i noticed, because at the time it the volume of the denial felt as if someone was crying wolf for the sake of attention. harris hasn’t been very active lately, and it would stand to reason that his people might make some tacky move on his behalf to get him some stage time.
but it was also odd, as harris has always been publicly graceful. he seems secure in who and what he is, which is no small achievement for an actor who’s regarded as a camp icon.
only after that did harris announce his gayness himself. after his publicist seemed to be denying it. what’s going on with this chain of events?
what actually happened to provoke harris’ doubleback on his publicist’s announcement? i think this story is more about how deeply out of touch a celebritity’s handlers can actually be with public perception of their client.
