chicago’s six-way intersections are a direct violation of the city’s grid system. but these intersections, bewildering in their lack of structure and departure from the compass, are the city’s most interesting. chicago’s often called the nation’s biggest small town. these intersections are the town’s meeting grounds.
pictured above is milwaukee, logan and kedzie, facing north on kedzie from the monument in the center of the park towards my and su’s home and studio.
color me silly, but isn’t it kinda weird that a vegetarian would have to ask about portable, yet healthy food?
for some stupid reason, it took me a month to post this: cute lil’ dutch DJ yoni roberti has a new mix up. download the hour-long house set here; has been in constant rotation on my ipod since i found it. yoni will also be spending some time with one of my favorite house stations, deep.fm. you’re welcome.
this is such a welcome relief. i’m really tired of people using google as a straw man for having bad style. the argument i hear most frequently is that “google is making money hand over fist without utilizing styling, so we can too.” and that rationalization is generally applied with broad brushstrokes, completely ignoring google’s function or market position when that decision was made.
yes, google worked well without any real sense style—past tense. it did so because it wanted to appear naive, and that gave them a market advantage after highly orchestrated media exposure from its competitiors. it’s the equivalent of kicking your sneakers in the dirt and going, “aw, shucks.”
but after a certain level of media saturation, nobody’s going to buy that stance any more. after hearing that google is sucking up young companies left and right, and working with the chinese government on censorship issues… does anyone really believe their naive posturing anymore?
i really doubt it. about time the company decided to grow up a little bit.
