hi bitch.

been a while, right? sorry. it’s been this one long, high-pitched screech around here for a while. i finished up wonkette, and then immediately moved into another project for hewitt associates (hello toronto people! go see my work!) and then started a gig re-branding dremel tools, then i had to totally reinstall my operating system (iterative upgrading from mac os 10.1.3 to 10.3.2 over a few years with occasional mucking around in the system is so not a good idea), and the su and i decided “hey! pk has four hours a night to sleep! that’s plenty of time to strategize a new business!” god only knows what’s next, you know what i mean?

oh wait, i do know what’s next: su and i are teaching at NCSU in a couple of weeks. if you listen closely, you can hear the sound of my presentation not getting done on time. rock.

sooooo, a month after chicago’s finest unceremoniously closed red dog over some yuppie punching a cop in the face (and shouldn’t a cop expect such behavior from drunk yuppies? and was this really grounds for yanking chicago’s longest-running nightclub’s license?), monday house classic boom boom room is sort of reopening under a different name but, like, with the same folks.

if you’ve missed jojo, lego and lance as much as i have, please report to slick’s lounge on mondays from 10pm to 4am. there’s no cover.

for some bizarre reason, wired news (which is owned by terra/lycos, also the owner of webmonkey) is just now getting around to a report on…webmonkey’s death. who scooped ‘em? uh, pretty much everyone. first one i saw was anil, sometime last week. weird.

…’cause i’m voting for him. however pleasantly surprised i may be by his outright acceptance of the notion of gay marriage, i have one question: can i please file a joint return, fachrissakes?

(grow up. you think we’d get married just for love?)

“he’d be mainstream but slightly bland.” no. really?

we discussed this very issue over dinner last night. what the hell is it about chicago that makes the community so boring? i have no clue. i’m tired of it. it’s like whole friggin’ city made out of NPR. interesting content, but implementation is as dull as rocks.

come on, people. this is not the world-class city, the global senter for design, the visible architectural leader i moved to ten years ago. let it be.

start by letting nightlife flourish in more interesting ways that a million sports bars and hip-hop clubs. protect your artists’ communities, don’t gentrify them (remember wicker park eight years ago, the country’s largest arts-centric neighborhood? yeah, look at it now. any comments?). embrace your architectural heritage, don’t continually go for the lowest pricetag whenever a highly visible piece of public architecture goes up. make it easier for entrpreneurs to start something here. quit trying to please everyone. piss some people off, for god’s sake. i’m tired of this continual and unrelenting erasure of this city’s personality.

chaz wilkin’s latest offering from prototype, type-01, profiled on idanda today. nicely written, except for the part where chaz basically calls me old. just shuffle my saggy ass off to golden pond…

1) why does jessica simpson even have a career?

2) what is it with carson kressley that he keeps making everyone’s vinatge ties into pirate belts? it’s not cute.

3) how come george bush keeps trying to deflect media attention from his real affrontery by creating false scandals? is it that he’s such an insecure little dictator that he can’t help but keep his people in a constant state of panic?

4) i require brini maxwell products. target: license her, stat.

and lastly, please don’t forget that su and i will be teaching at NCSU this weekend. the student-designed poster:

have you seen anything cuter, anything more dead-on correct? no, you have not. miss carolin did a fantastic job. even the typeface is perfecto. it’s called something to do with hannibal lecter. ask su. he knows.

anyway, yeah. come see me be a nervous wreck. we’ll be lecturing in brooks at 1:30PM on friday afternoon.
